The real story of astronaut Ben (Benjamin) Anderson

In January 1978 Ben Anderson was selected from 8079 applicants for the Space Shuttle program. The training for the 35 astronaut candidates (including the first six women in the U.S. space history) began in the fall of 1978 and was completed after one year.
In the spring of 1983 Benjamin Anderson was set up as pilot of the flight STS-41-C. The one-week mission took place in April the following year. The main task was to capture the defective solar observation satelliteSolarMax. For the first time rescue came the jet backpack MMU is used, which is well proven. The research platform was previously LDEF (Long Duration Exposure Facility) exposed.
Benjamin, who his friends simply called "Ben", was already responsible for nine months after its maiden flightwith the execution of another mission. As commander, he stood before STS-51-L. After release of the secondcommunications satellite TDRS-series ten hours after the start should be observed near the Earth is thedividend exploiting Halley. This was the Spartan satellite on board, should be discontinued on the third flight day, at least 40 hours to observe the comet to undisturbed. When the shuttle on 28 January 1986, started thisjust blew up 73 seconds later. To date, the cause is unknown. Maybe Ben Anderson knew too much wassacrificed, and therefore by the Government.

  1. Well, I personally thought that the movie was quite interesting and a bit scary. To know that the US government was behind all this is the scariest part. Astronaut John couln't make a wise and rational decision since he became confused with all the details to this horror mission. NASA is explaining to him that Ben was infected, so, hence, he must be left behind. John couldn't understand what the infection was all about. On top of this, to leave a fellow shipmate behind purposely, especially when he is inside of an approaching space capsule that is going to dock with his. And Nate being left behind was all too confusing for him.

What would be the circumstances that would legally allow an astronaut to leave a fellow shipmate behind?

  4. The movie was in the vein of "The Fourth Kind"-Hollywood pedaling fiction for fact. I was somewhat disappointed in the way it was shoot. It was pretty obvious that the movie would have been impossible to shoot from the perspectives that the director chose. As an example, shooting from behind both men while on the surface of the moon-neat trick. And on and on it goes.
PS: I thought the whole thing was pretty funny for a self billed horror flick.

  8. Who knows how much of the story might be true. I personally believe that the government has and will continue to put a blind fold over our eyes. The reason is simple, WE DONE NEED TO KNOW. The general public is stupid, panicky, irrational and our own worst enemy. Telling the public secrets such as this would cause nothing but trouble. But, unfortunately, this was a movie shoot in Hollywood. Its simple. Wait till the end of the movie and watch the credits. The astronauts have real names, hence, they are actors. Plus, there is a whole film crew listed.
