Does the earth stop spinning?

Night and day, and the changing seasons is a phenomenon that everyone accepts as normal, existing from all time, and at the same time significantly affecting our lives. What would happen if the Earth suddenly stopped spinning?

Supporters of the extermination of the human species, caused by a global cataclysm, most warn against falling asteroids, gigantic volcanic eruptions, or flood. Recently added to the public of a new phenomenon - Stop the Earth. Geophysicist, professor Joseph Jankowski in the magazine "Weekly Word News" wrote that the Earth will gradually extinguish the rotation until it stops completely. He gave even an approximate date of the event - 16 January 2013!

This scenario refers to a sudden stop the Earth from day to day, as if someone suddenly turned on the brake. The effects of such inhibition would be tragic for us.
Could you imagine that the Earth (which is on the equator rotates at a speed of 1674.4 km / h) is stopped suddenly as a car braking on the highway. Everyone who rode fast car and had to stop suddenly knows what it means. Everything on the equator would be detached from the earth at a rate greater than the speed of sound, and thrown with great force into the air. Since the escape velocity from Earth is about 40 000 km / h, this strength is not enough to objects, people, animals flown in space. Just, however, that everything was thrown high into the sky and the ballistic trajectory has moved away from the place of "start". In addition, a tremendous speed will thrown up great masses of water - the sea and oceans.
The farther from the equator, the speed with everything in the air would fall slower. Only those who live near the pole would not experience a sudden stop of the Earth. But they would have no reason to rejoice. Since the Earth would not rotate, the day (and night) would last after 365 days for half illuminated by the Sun and the second, which is in constant shade. The bright half would be roasted by the sun, the dark would be cold and unfriendly to life. There would be no night-day cycle or seasons. All my life it would be destroyed in most of the first moments after the arrest of the planet, and the other, which could survive near the poles, the water that flowed from the Equator to the poles and flooded the old continent, especially in the north.
This scenario takes into account that due to sudden braking could lead to disruption of the Earth. And if the earth had not been torn, it would have its violent eruptions, the movement of large masses of lava and water. Overall, there would be destroyed almost all life on Earth. The chances of survival would have only bacterias.
Let's just hope that before the black and gloomy scenario, we will save our brothers from outer space.
In the face of this disaster better to Mayan prophecy come true ..

  3. The earth stop spinning??!!! Just like that? In order for that to happen som kind of force had to shut it down in an instant. If not it would take years and years and years.. 2013 will soon be upon us, though I have yet to experience the days getting longer/shorter..
Everything on the equator would be detached!!!?? You can not be serious, thinking this theory offers a shred of truth!? (though it WOULD be a sight, beyond doubt:)

  4. This theory is quite controversial, but should be considered every possibility..all tornadoes tsunami earthquakes are signs approaching catastrophe- especially when they follow one after the other...i dont think this date is correct..but I believe this scenario might happen in future..

  5. I ve been thinking about this and have to say it is possible...of course not in 2013!
but the way haw we treat our planet and all nuclear weapons and atomic piles...we are closer then we think...

  6. Unlikely to happen. As the same Geophysicist, Professor Joseph Jankowski in the magazine "Weekly Word News" wrote: “By summer of 2011, a day will lengthen to 38.6 hours,” revealed Prof. Jankowski. (See http://weeklyworldnews.com/headlines/15077/earths-rotation-slowing/ )

As of this posting, today is June 15, 2012 and the length of the day is still 24 hours.
