Giant impact theory

currently the dominant theory of the formation of the moon in a collision a young Earth and an object, similar in size to Mars . This hypothetical object is sometimes called Theia in honor of one of the sisters-she-titans , the mother of Helios , Eos , and Selene (Moon) .
Evidence of the validity of this hypothesis are: samples of lunar soil, indicating that the surface of the moon was once molten, and the fact that the moon appears, has a relatively small core of iron sulfide, as well as evidence of similar collisions in other star systems .
However, there were some issues with this  hypothesis, which have not received an explanation. Among them are: lack of in lunar samples, the expected percentage of volatile elements, iron oxides, or siderophile elements , as well as the absence of evidence that Earth once had oceans of magma , implied by this hypothesis.
For the 1sr time put forward the giant impact theory of William K. Hartmann and Donald R. Davis in 1975.
