Space colonization is, as shown in the definition, construction and the establishment of habitats and colonies and societies. This means that the people must be the basic needs for its survival provided. An overview is given by the Maslow pyramid of needs. It should be noted, however, that in the early days ofWeltraumkolonisierung only the first two stages of "physiological needs" and "security" is of great relevanceare:
1) Physiological needs:
Protection against harmful environmental influences, such as: radiation, UV light, temperature extremes ...
a people-friendly atmosphere, such as: pressure, oxygen, humidity, ...
Gravity (for long term operations required)
Food, water.
2) Safety:
medical care
Reliability of the technology
rescue Systems
3) physiological needs are met largely by the habitat. It can be distinguished between three habitat types:
habitable planets
planetary stations
orbital stations.
