The future of the universe

Hawking: 3 options for the future of the universe:
About the future of the universe, there are three different basic theories: they depend essentially on how much mass in the universe exists.

First The expansion will eventually stop and vice versa

Enough mass in the universe is present then the extension or expansion of the universe will eventually stop once in the distant future. Thereafter the expansion movement would go back again, that the universe would begin to contract again until it is concentrated in the longer term on a tiny and dense point. Then it might be a big bang.

Second The universe expands forever and ever further from

Is not enough mass in the universe to stop the expansion, it would expand forever. Once, long time in all the stars would burn out. Hydrogen and helium, the raw material of all the stars would then be consumed and fused to form heavier elements. New stars can therefore no longer arise. Then the galaxies in the universe and slowly go out there is complete darkness. But even before galaxies could be seen any more, because the expansion of the universe has brought them to great distances. In unimaginably long time - about million times more than today's universe, the universe is old, then ends in a cold, dark and incredibly thin and Materiebrei in a room where nothing happens (!). Then gradually the time listening to exist ....

Third The expansion comes to a standstill in an infinitely long time

The third option would be just enough mass in the universe exists, but to stop the expansion of the universe, but they do not repent. In this case, the expansion will, over time would be slower, but never to the complete cessation. Here too, would eventually be unimaginably long periods after all galaxies, stars have gone out and a cold and dead space is to expand in all eternity with ever decreasing pace, but without coming to a complete halt
