Belgian UFO wave

The Belgian UFO wave peaked in the night of 30 31 March 1990. That night unidentified flying objects have been detected on radar, photographed and observed by about 13,500 people. 2600 of these witnesses submitted written observations. [1] Following the events of the Belgian Air Force published a detailed report on the events of that night.
By 23 clock received the control of a NATO military base in Glons, a small Belgian town, reports that three unusual lights were sighted, toward the southeast of Brussels-Gembloux Thorembais moving. The lights were described in terms of their intensity brighter than stars. It was reported that the color of the lights changed from red, green and yellow. The lights seemed to be at the vertices of an isosceles triangle are too. The control center in Glons asked the police, send out a patrol to check the sightings.
About 10 minutes later, a second set of lights was observed, which moved in the direction of the first triangle. At around 23:30 clock patrol of the police could confirm the first sighting, and the control center in Glons could observe the appearance on the radar. At this time the second set of lights had formed a small triangle. Shortly afterwards, the control of the order, send off two F16. At this point, it was shortly before midnight. The phenomenon was clearly visible at this time and moved slowly across the sky. Witnesses continued to report weaker of two other lights that moved toward to the two triangles.
During the next two hours were the two F16 nine trapping. Three times they managed to see the flying objects on the radar for a few seconds, but each time the objects disappeared very fast change in position from the radar again. Once the target accelerated from a speed of 240 km / h to 1770 km / h, while its height changed within two seconds of 2743 to 1524 m and then increased again to an altitude of 3352 m. The F-16 pilots were able during the entire maneuver, not sight contact with the objects.
Could with the help of four different ground-based radar stations and airplane radar observations are confirmed by witnesses on the ground. Lt. Col. Pierre Billen NATO radar station in Glons confirmed that had at least four radar stations, including Glons, "precisely the same echo in the same place" on the radar screen. At least one time seemed to ground and air radar, according to one of the two pilots to have recorded the same objective in question. 0:40 clock to the F-16 lost all contact when they could see the objects for a fourth time. A sudden increase in speed by over 900 km / h finished it.
